Custom Refresh
The "Custom Refresh" feature is a powerful tool that allows publishers to set varying refresh rates for the same ad placements using granular rules. By leveraging variables such as ad units, line item types, order IDs, devices, and more, publishers can create specific rules to control ad refresh behavior. This feature offers enhanced flexibility and control, enabling publishers to optimize revenue while maintaining a balanced user experience.
Creating your first rule
In the sidebar, select “Refresh Rates.”
Click “Add Rule.”
After setting your rule, click “Save.”
Once saved, activate the rules by toggling “Custom Refresh” at the top of the page.
You can always add, modify, reprioritize, or remove your rules.
Rule settings
Browsi’s refresh rates feature allows the creation of rules using various variables. Here’s an explanation of each of the settings:
Priority
The refresh's activation depends on the priority assigned to the rules you’ve created, which is determined by their position in the rules table and displayed in the “Priority” column.
When the custom refresh is active, Browsi scans the rules one by one during the user’s session, starting from the top of the table. The first rule that matches the conditions of the displayed ad will be applied. If no match is found, the system will proceed to the second rule, then the third, and so on, until a suitable rule is identified.
To change a rule's priority, drag the handle located below its priority and drop it in the desired position.
Rule name
Add a name to easily identify the rule. It does not influence the refresh logic.
Refresh rate
Set the desired refresh rate (in seconds) for the rule.
Ad type
Set if you want the rule to affect Browsi’s ads, your ads, or both.
Device
Define the target device(s) for the rule - Mobile & Tablet, Desktop, or both.
Ad Units
Add ad units to the list and choose whether to include them in the rule or exclude them.
This field uses 'contains' logic, meaning it matches partial values. For example, if you enter 'browsi,' the rule will include or exclude both '/12345,6789/browsi_video' and '/12345,6789/browsi'.
Line Item Types
Add line item types to the list and choose whether to include them in the rule or exclude them.
Order IDs
Add order IDs to the list and choose whether to include them in the rule or exclude them.
Line Item IDs
Add line item IDs to the list and choose whether to include them in the rule or exclude them.
Summary
By using the "Custom Refresh" feature, publishers can achieve more granular control over their ad refresh behavior, aligning it with audience behavior and maximizing revenue potential while maintaining a balanced user experience.
